Take Me to the Moon 6.7

Previous Chapter / Next Chapter:

Yuki was in labor.  She had just gotten back from a walk around the block, hoping the exercise would make the contractions to come more regularly.  Now she was wondering why she had wanted more contractions.  There was barely time between them to catch her breath.

As she breathed deeply and worked to relax all her muscles, she got into a rhythm.  She could do this.

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 22-22-13-55

Then, suddenly, everything became very intense and overwhelming.    This was not going to work.  Where was Fiona?  She needed to get to the hospital, and get some pain medicine!

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 22-22-24-79

Fiona arrived just as little Misa came into the world.  Fiona looked into his beautiful dark eyes and gorgeous, rich, cocoa skin color.  Misa was a miracle, and she couldn’t move her eyes away from him.

Welcome, Misa Tesla!

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 22-33-04-70

It wasn’t long before the family began to arrive to meet Misa.  Fearghus had texted Elsa, and asked her to come along too.

“What do you think?” she spun and twirled for Fearghus to see her new look.

Of course, Fearghus had a new look, too, since he had gained so much muscle mass, and literally burst out of his old clothes.   Elsa wondered if Fearghus was catching on that she liked him.  She wondered how long it would take him to get over Alyse; didn’t he realize Alyse didn’t feel that way about him?

The family headed to the nursery.  Zoe gave the new mom a great big hug and asked if she was ok.

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 22-33-58-82

“Well, I certainly didn’t know what I was getting myself into,” she said wryly.  “I’m not so anxious to repeat that whole experience.”

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 22-35-19-07

Fearghus was excited to be an uncle and quite eager to meet Misa.

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 22-36-10-73

As he put his finger near Misa’s cheek, Misa turned and nuzzled him.  Fearghus was smitten completely.

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 22-36-26-16

Ewan, who had been feeling much more frail lately, held this little miracle, and wondered.  He wondered if he would get to meet his grandchildren.  He marveled at the family line continuing, and that it would go on, after he and Elise were gone.  He thought of his mom, and his grandmothers, Bella, and Cassandra, and wondered what they would think to see this seventh generation after Maddi come into the world.

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 22-38-02-01

But then, his somber realization of his own imminent passing faded, as he held Misa, and Misa warmed his heart.

Zoe was talking with the new moms about taking care of a baby, and remembering what it was like to hold little Felicity, and Fearghus, when they were babies.

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 22-40-43-02 TS4_x64 2016-02-27 22-41-03-83

Fearghus and Elsa had gone downstairs and were enjoying each others’ company.  Although they’d been friends since they were young children, they’d not been nearly as close as Alyse and Fearghus.  Fearghus knew that Elsa had told him to let Alyse go, and he knew that she was speaking up for Alyse.  But he also wondered, if she had feelings for him.   He wondered if he could have feelings for her.

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 22-42-26-22

Right now, Fearghus could only really think of Alyse.  But he also wanted, desperately, to fall in love and be loved.

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 22-43-36-70

Zoe, confident that the new moms were ok, allowed herself to cuddle and love on Misa to her heart’s content.

Ewan came upstairs, and took her in his arms.

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 22-48-09-71

“You know, we’re greats now,” he said.

Zoe, who had always been the cheerful one, knew Ewan wasn’t well, and she tried not to think of losing him, while savoring this moment with him, for all it was worth.

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 22-48-13-63

Later that day, at home, Ewan tried to paint, but had to take a break and lay down for a while.

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 23-03-37-46

After a while, he was able to go back and finish it, another masterpiece, perhaps his last.

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 23-04-01-01

Zoe woke from a nap and came out to give him a hug.  Instead, he passionately swept her into an embrace.

The next morning was Fearghus’ young adult birthday.  Zoe and Ewan woke early to prepare cake and ice cream.

Gameplay Notes:

After all the repairing to the game I had to do last time I played Simdale Valley, I hadn’t edited the default.ini to get rid of the plumbbobs and group icons again for this post.

I think that the way genetics works in The Sims 4, is that the parents’ skintones provide a range and the children’s skin tones can fall anywhere in between.  So the range for Fiona and Yuki allow for almost any skin tone.  I’m very excited about Misa’s genetics.

This was Fearghus and his dad watching a romance movie (Roaring Vice).  Fearghus, still broken hearted over Alyse (he had the broken hearted icon intermittently over his head), and in tears over the drama in the movie, declared Romance to be his favorite genre.  You can see, though, that he was happy about being sad from the romance movie.

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 22-51-28-39

Ewan apparently likes romance too 🙂

TS4_x64 2016-02-27 22-51-39-87

Early in this play session, just before Misa was born, I got the message that Ewan doesn’t have long left, to make the most of his days.

It’ll be sad to see Ewan go. 🙁

I wonder where are Elise and her husband to see the grandkid.

Yay, new baby! Welcome Misa! The dark skin was a surprise. I figured that skin tones would work like they do in TS2, where the colour can be inherited from either parent or be something in between…but I also thought the alien skin tones would work like TS2. From what I remember, if one parent is alien, they’ll either get the alien skin tone, the other parent’s skin tone or one from a recessive gene. There’s no way for the alien skin tones to “mix” with others. So that’s interesting to me!

I’m sad about Ewan. 🙁 It doesn’t seem like he’s been an elder for that long. 🙁

I think Elsa might have to hit Fearghus over the head with a clue-by-four. 😉 Poor Fearghus watching that movie – I like how Ewan looks a bit concerned too. Fearghus must have found it a bit cathartic though. 😉

    • I really miss TS2 genetics– I think they totally abandoned Mendelian genetics which in my opinion was a huge mistake. It sounds a lot more sensible, too, that alien skin tones were, well, different, and they didn’t mix.

You’re perception that Ewan hasn’t been an elder long is very well founded. I have started using regular aging and not using youth potion, and in addition to those changes, I also made fewer posts since Ewan became an elder, because I am trying to pick up the pace of the legacy. I’m sad about losing him, too, he has been a fantastic, fascinating sim.

You made me laugh out loud with the “clue-by-four,” ha!! Fearghus just isn’t interested in anyone but Alyse, and yes, I definitely thought watching the romantic movie and bawling his eyes out was great for him having such a broken heart right now.

  4. Welcome baby Misa!

His darker skin makes sense to me based on what I’ve noticed of alien genetics (from shamelessly CAS rolling babies for Dallas and his sisters and random partners, then not saving, lol!). From what I’ve seen, the lighter alien shades pass down darker skinned children and darker alien shades pass down lighter skinned children. Could just be a fluke, but it seems to apply here, too.

    Whoa, Fearghus’s arms, lol! 0_0

I was worried for a minute that he’d try it on with Elsa and be shot down again.

    • That pattern for alien skintones (darker/lighter and lighter/darker) just doesn’t make any sense to me, but it fits what happened here, because Fiona and her dad have that light lilac skintone, and Misa ended up with one of the darker skintones. Do you think it is true that children’s skintones in general can fall anywhere on the scale between the two parents, in Sims 4? Like your Jeremiah and your Stephanie, with her very light skin, could have a child with almost any skintone?

Yes, Fearghus is close to his maximum body potential from weight-lifting here. I think this was just before or just after he reached that goal in the body builder aspiration. As for Elsa, he didn’t have any whims (although we’ve talked about how useful those can be, lol) or any autonomous actions towards her. (I have MC Command Center set for autonomous woohoo and TFB in this game).

      • Yes, that seems to be true, it could be either of the parents’ exact shade or anything in between. Although it does seem to aim more often for a blend in the middle and less often for an exact copy of one of the parents or even one of the extremes (except if one of them has a custom skin shade, then it’s all copies of one or the other). From CAS, that is true at least. I wish I had more in game examples. Sadly, I keep pausing my timeline to do flashback stories, so I don’t have very many babies born in game yet, lol! Just CAS baby rolling experiments. And I also know that CAS genetics can behave slightly differently than born in game ones. For example, CAS children don’t seem to inherit from grandparents, but born in game kids can.

        • Oh, that’s really interesting– and pretty remarkable you noticed — that CAS children don’t inherit from grandparents but born-in-game sims do. When I was making the sims for Simdale Valley, sometimes I started with the child, and sometimes with the parents or grandparents, and then used the randomize child or randomize twin, or randomize sibling to get a base to work from for the relatives. But I haven’t tried experimenting with how the parameters work so that’s cool to learn. Thanks!

Misa’s adorable, and I really enjoyed watching the family together. Ewan is so built up! I hadn’t realized he was still a teen! And Elsa is wonderful–I’ve got a good feeling for the two of them!

    • Hi Cathytea, thanks for commenting! I am so behind on yours and many other blogs right now. I think Misa’s adorable too! Elsa and Fearghus have been friends longer than he and Alyse, but not as close. She is a definite possible romantic interest that I’d be happy to see him end up with.

  6. maisie says:

Misa, what a cutie!! Interesting on the alien skintones in TS4. I have my half-alien, Zilla, who I readily ignore that she has any alien parentage. And thankfully she is not green!

I’m so sad about Ewan though, and missed Elise in the update as well. She seemed to care so much about her family, and after all her attempts for immortality, she’s really lost all her family in the process. Rather ironic. And poor Ewan, holding Misa, that was sad to see his health failing. It really doesn’t seem like he was an elder long at all, and now that makes sense with the lack of potion use.

I really like how the elders age up in TS4, they keep their beauty and still look like themselves too. I find that in TS2, the women lose their jaws, their whole face shrinks in below the cheek bones. TS4 really nailed that part… and wow on Fearghus and those muscles! He could be a wrestler! I hope he heals from his brokenheart and finds happiness with Elsa. Too funny watching the boys watch the romance movie, sometimes those are just the things we need to heal and move on.

  7. Me too, I was really sad that Elise wouldn’t respond to invites. It was definitely hard not playing her anymore.

I’ve been a little worried about the timeline feeling wonky, but at my prior rate, it would have been 7-10 real life years before I could wrap this legacy up, and it still might be a couple more at this rate! So I hope it hasn’t been too weird for you guys with me not stretching the lifespans out as much now.

Lately I’ve been more focused on what TS4 doesn’t have, but you are right, the aging is nicely done. Zoe really looks like herself, but definitely older.

    Maisie, thanks for commenting!
