Take Me to the Moon 5.36

Previous Chapter / Next Chapter:

It was a school holiday.  Fearghus had just played in the pool, and now was happily cleaning up the kitchen.  He was excited because his friends were coming over to play all day.

“Look at me!” Alyse said.

TS4_x64 2016-01-02 19-42-08-65

Fearghus looked, but he was not impressed.  After all, he was the one who had introduced her to all his other friends, and she was not supposed to be the show-off.

Max, who usually sat very coolly on top the monkey bars, jumped off and began climbing to see if he could do it too.

That was the last straw for Fearghus, who stormed into the kitchen.

“Why all the long faces?’ Ewan asked.

Fiona had gotten a very bad progress report, so she was doing make-up work.

Felicity was down, dreading going back to school.

And Fearghus was feeling left out by his best friend.

“Don’t forget, your mother and I will be gone tonight to that New Year’s Party for Susan’s company,” he told Felicity and Fearghus.

Fearghus was too aggravated with Alyse to go back outside just yet.   Max seemed more interested in Alyse than he ever had in Fearghus, and Alyse didn’t even noticed Fearghus felt upset.  There was only one thing to do.

Hide out in the closet.

Zoe was taking a home course in charisma.  She was almost done with her Friend of the World Aspiration, and just lacked a couple charisma points.

Fiona brought her pancakes and sat down next to her Aunt Zoe.

She had been feeling really discouraged since being rejected by Kyla.  Kyla had made it clear that she didn’t want anything to do with her.  “Lesbo,” Kyla had said, under her breath as she turned away from Fiona that evening.

Fiona had thought she was safe for a tiny bit of flirting… she had thought they were friends and even if she didn’t like her that way, she thought she would understand.

“Umm, Aunt Zoe,” Fiona started.  “How’d you find Uncle Ewan?  I mean, how’d you know you loved him?”

TS4_x64 2016-01-02 19-27-19-37

Zoe told Fiona how Ewan had been so shy, but so sweet, and so intense, too.  Then she looked at Fiona.

“But I don’t think that’s really what you’re wondering about, Fiona,” she said.  “I think you’ve been feeling lonely.”

She paused.

“It’s not easy being different, whether it’s wanting to pursue a non-conventional career, or being a strong introvert in a world of extroverts.  There are things, privileges, experiences that people take for granted, that you just may not have.”

TS4_x64 2016-01-02 19-30-30-33

Fiona suddenly got up.

“Who says I’m gay,” she said angrily.  “Anyway, I think it was just a phase.  I’m over it.”

TS4_x64 2016-01-02 19-29-56-17

In the other room, Fearghus peered out to see if it was safe to emerge.

TS4_x64 2016-01-02 19-33-14-63

Later that evening, Susan and Zoe were chatting at the New Year’s Party.

“Why don’t you go find Ewan,” Susan suggested.  “You’ve been distracted all evening.”

TS4_x64 2016-01-02 19-58-44-85

She found him on a back balcony overlooking the grounds.

TS4_x64 2016-01-02 20-04-56-73

“Ewan, talk to me.”

TS4_x64 2016-01-02 20-14-12-01

He turned and fell into her arms.

TS4_x64 2016-01-02 20-05-35-84

“I’m so scared.” he confided.

“We are growing old; soon we’ll be really old.  And Fearghus is still so young, and sometimes he’s too sensitive, and Felicity… “

TS4_x64 2016-01-02 20-13-20-37

Zoe waited for him to go on.

“Felicity has this dream of being a writer, I don’t know.  I just want her to be successful, and that kind of career is hard.”

A million rebuttals went through Zoe’s head.

Ewan was always so gloomy, always seeing the dark possibilities.

It was rich.  Here was Ewan, a painter, bemoaning his child choosing a creative line of work.  And getting older was just part of life.

TS4_x64 2016-01-02 20-06-21-17

But Zoe had learned over many years married to Ewan, that rebuttals weren’t going to help change his outlook.

“We’ve got each other,” she said, with a twinkle in her eye, and a swish of her flirty dress.

TS4_x64 2016-01-02 20-16-31-01

Ewan kissed her. With all his heart, he hung on to this moment.

TS4_x64 2016-01-02 20-10-04-28

“Happy New Year, my love,” he whispered in her ear.

Gameplay Notes:

  • The kids don’t have to go back to school, because they all have more vacation days than days left in their current lifestage, so it was a school holiday!  Fiona’s working on her programming, Felicity’s working on her book, and Fearghus is still working on his social butterfly aspiration.
  • Alyse is getting really good on the monkey bars, and she even got Max to play for a bit there (he usually puts his effort into looking cool, it seems.)  Fearghus has rolled “jealous,” as his teen trait, so I thought I’d go ahead and give a bit of a sense of that part of his psyche, since the heir poll will be coming up soon.
  • Fiona took her pancakes all the way to the other side of the house to eat with her Aunt Zoe, so I figured something was on her mind.  She’s been having a tough time finding acceptance, or love, so far.
  • Everyone was invited to a party at the big estate in Windenburg, so I had some fun taking pictures of Ewan and Zoe there.  Trying to think of why they’d be attending a party there, I thought of Susan Echoweaver, who works for a corporation that might throw a New Year’s party there and invite them.

Woo, Feargus’s new trait is going to make him more complex and less unambiguously sweet. OTOH, I am very interested in getting to know the teen Feargus and how his traits fit together.

Also, it was great to see Alyse and me! At first I didn’t recognize myself. I looked pretty great in that picture :).

My heart really ached for poor Fiona. Her reaction is so believable and so tragic. I hope she gets some encouragement in her love life sometime soon.

And your final scene with Ewan and Zoe just swept me away. It was beautiful.

    • That is Susan the way you designed, dressed, and made her up in CAS! I thought she looked great too, in her formalwear. I can’t wait to see Alyse as a teen, I know she’s going to be awesome. She has really big cheekbones which I think she’ll grow into.

It’s hard to see Fiona go through this, but I’m sure she’ll be happy in the end… she’s a goofball after all. It just gets her in trouble sometimes, she is impulsive. She’s got some growing and hopefully some support to find, for her sexual identity.

Basically I took a lot of picspam of Ewan and Zoe and then dreamed up a conversation for it, although he was, just as I wrote it, and as usual, gloomy. They just looked so magical in that setting. Thanks so much for reading and commenting, it is so much fun to get to hear your reactions.

      • Echo Weaver says:

Haha. My simself is hotter than I remember her.

Far from me to criticize the technique of taking attractive picspam and building a conversation out of it. That’s half my entire Sims blogging strategy :).

  2. Carla says:

Aw, poor Fiona. 🙁 That bums me out. Not that Kyla wasn’t interested but that she was nasty about it to boot Makes it harder. She’s obviously struggling.

Fearghus is so cute! I might end up loving him like I love Ewan, lol. It’ll be interesting to see what the “jealous” trait does to his personality. And if he does anything with the information he may or may not have heard while hiding in that closet!

    • I know, I’m so sorry about Kyla’s mean words. It’s a question as I write– should I just write the way I want things to be, or write the way things often are. It seems like all my kids who are different in this area at school seem to have to deal with verbal abuse and it distresses me too. Anyway, Fiona has had a rough time, and I’m hoping it gets better soon. I appreciate your comment.

Me too, I adore Fearghus. It makes me want to take back the heir poll so I don’t have a chance of him losing it! Right now I am planning for the family to move after the heir poll; the current lot has gotten so big and elaborate that it costs a lot to maintain, it lags a little sometimes, and they just aren’t going to need a rocket silo and cavernous underground lab anymore, lol. Plus, I love building/decorating. But at any rate, whoever the new heir is, everyone will probably stick around for a bit to work on their aspirations, and since Fearghus is a teen he won’t have to move out for a while.

    • Oh, I guess the closet part was confusing. Fearghus wasn’t in the same room with Fiona, although that would have been a smart plot twist. He was just hiding because he was upset. (Technically he was playing in the closet because he doesn’t have the jealous trait yet.)

We’ll see about the jealous trait. I’ve played it really briefly in Simdale Valley, Zane Roberts has it (He was a Leo in Sims 2 and pretty mean; I decided to try it out for him instead of mean.) I noticed whenever Sandy is talking with a guy he would come over and be concerned, tense. So it is definitely a negative trait. It also is supposed to make them more tense when away from their significant other. Fearghus has plenty of aspiration points to get the carefree trait and never be tense, plus he’s got so many positive things going on that a +2 tense will get buried under a bunch of other stuff and barely affect him. So I don’t think it’s going to totally change him but it will add a dimension that is not so positive.

The conversation between Fiona and Aunt Zoe was so touching! I wonder if it’s easier for Fiona since she’s different in being half-alien to also be a lesbian, or if her difference in sub-species makes her more sensitive to other differences. I love how Zoe is so supportive to everyone in the family. And isn’t Max great? 🙂

    • It’s funny, Cathytea, but I think the answer to your question is really both. Already being visibly different makes her keenly aware (and maybe a bit more easily defensive) because of what it is like to be discriminated against, but she’s also got all the resilience and growth from dealing with it her whole life. It is hard to imagine what it would be like to be a person who is twice discriminated against. Even in my near-utopian world, purple skin just doesn’t go with easier… her dad,Ranen, is constantly “found out” by other sims, who often have negative reactions. From a gameplay point of view, though, Fiona’s purple skin is invisible because sims don’t discover she’s an alien and just ignore her purple skin.

  4. maisie says:

Oh my, I absolutely adore sweet Fearghus, and his jealousy trait is great. I loved the photos of him hiding in the closet. He’s a kid I can relate to as a child, I was always jealous of my cousin, who was really spoiled by our grandparents. Very sweet conversation with Fiona and Zoe. I am curious what will happen with her. And lol Ewan… worried about his daughter because she wants to be a writer?! Silly. Though it is the children that are the most like us that we can have a difficult time, I don’t! But my husband does, as does my Mom! ;D The garden where Ewan laments aging is absolutely stunning!

    • Hi Maisie, I’m a little like Ewan in that, I think; now that my girls are older I think I underestimate the one that is more like me more often, although when they were little it was easier for me to understand her and I had more conflict with the other one. But Ewan has the gloomy trait, so he tends to see the glass half empty a lot.

I adore Fearghus too; although I’d be happy with any of the kids as heir, I am kind of hoping for him. But anyway, that garden is part of the Von Haunt estate. It is a special lot that came with Get Together and it has immense gardens. Someone posted a picture of a corner of it yesterday on Tumblr that I haven’t even seen yet. Thanks for commenting!
