Sea Monster Smiles
Take Me to the Moon 6.17
Narrated by Alyse Weaver Tesla
It was hard grieving both Zoe and my mom at the same time, and it felt like we hadn’t felt light-hearted in ages. Fearghus talked to our baby all the time, and checked on me constantly, but he was still sad. I think it made it harder to let Zoe go, with Fox being so young. Fearghus almost seemed more sad about Fox losing their mom, than Fox did. Perhaps, as an adult, Fearghus knew what having a mom had meant to him all his life, and Fox, as a child, just accepted this was the way things were for him.
One morning, while he and Fox ate breakfast, Fox cleared his throat. Fearghus slowly looked up from his eggs.
“I’ve been thinking,” Fox said. “We should have everyone over.”
Aubree was the first to arrive. Our mom had died recently, too, and she still looked very sad.
Fearghus called to her, and she jumped into the pool.
Then Misa, followed by his little sister, Sakura, arrived.
Misa seems like a very confident child.
While Sakura is always watching everyone, especially her big brother.
After a bit, Fox called Aubree back over, and the kids started splashing each other. Finally, I saw a smile start to break out on my sister’s face.
Fearghus came out, asked me if I wanted to nap, and offered to take the kids to the beach.
The kids were very excited about the outing. Aubree grabbed fishing poles, and all the kids took off running down the hill towards Felicity’s house. It’s a good thing Fearghus is in good shape, so he could keep up with them.
Fearghus told me later that Fox started telling Aubree and his cousins about the sea monster that lived offshore. Aubree, who would be a teen soon, was too polite to tell him that was preposterous,
and Sakura said, “Have you ever seen it?”
Fox had to admit he hadn’t, since Fearghus was standing right there, and he knows the truth.
“But it’s there,” he declared.
When they returned to the house, Fiona, Yuki, and Elizabeth had arrived. Fiona saw how sad Fearghus looked in the eyes, and gave her younger cousin a big hug.
And then there were hugs for everyone.
“The dishwasher is leaking,” I told Fearghus. “And all the faucets.” He told me not to worry about it, and set to work.
The kids went out back to play.
I noticed Aubree wasn’t joining in, and looked really sad.
So I started pretending to be the sea monster.
She finally grinned, and I asked her if she wanted to feel the baby kick.
It was so good to see her smile.
Meanwhile, Fearghus was fixing faucets and mopping puddles. When I came back into the house, I cat called at him and he laughed.
“Let me clean up first,” he said, when he saw the twinkle in my eye.
“I thought that’s what you were doing already,” I laughed. He struck a pose for me, a little taste of things to come.
As soon as he finished showering, I cornered him outside the bathroom door.
He swept me into his arms.
The next morning, Sunday, Fearghus started his family leave. We expected our little one to make his or her appearance any moment, and he didn’t want to be away from me for a second. I asked Fox if he wanted to cloudgaze, while we were waiting.
The whole day went by, and no baby yet. We put Fox to bed, and as I wondered what labor would be like, and if I could get through it, I missed my mom so much.
I decided to plink on the piano keys idly for a while, and Fearghus kept me company.
Just as I was about to lie down for a nap, the contractions got very intense. I was sure this was it.
Our son was born in the small, dark hours, just before the dawn. We named him Grayson.
Fearghus didn’t put him down for hours. I was happy, but exhausted. I finally got my nap.
- Maddi was there for the birth and kept the new parents company for sim hours after Grayson was born. I tried to have Fearghus show Grayson to her, but the interaction wouldn’t work. I wonder if it does work with ghosts?
She got a pretty close-up view of her new Great, Great, Great, Great, Great grandson, though.

- I’ve added a lot of CAS CC in the past few days, so I updated my Game Modifications page.
- The new CC is part of the reason Fearghus is going around without a shirt for so much of this post, because I was enjoying the new Bod-E CC (male upper body) by LumiaLoverSims
- Fearghus was really confident after fixing two toilets, a sink, a dishwasher, a tub, and a shower! I love the “Suave Kiss,” they can do when they are confident. Good thing he had family leave though, because it took all day Saturday to fix all that!
