Take Me to the Moon 6.22
Grayson was just about to don his robe-de-chambre when he noticed slimy tentacles oozing out from under his bed.
“Hello there,” he called. No response.
He kneeled down and spoke to the creature.
“No need to be alarmed,” he said, “however, this is my bedchamber, and I’d be obliged if you would leave.”
The creature only emitted further unintelligible utterances. Lack of eloquence, and a particularly distasteful appearance, as well as leaving slime tracks on his neat floor, all of these were offensive to Grayson.
“If that’s your stance,” Grayson replied, “I shall be required to involve the management.”
Grayson found his mom and dad on the pool patio, talking with Aubree about their date. His dad looked quite peaked, but appeared to be making an effort to eat. Odd, since they’d just returned from a dinner date.
No matter. The business at hand.
“Father, I require your assistance.”
Grayson’s father made quick work of the creature, and the integrity of Grayson’s boudoir was restored.
The next morning, Sunday, Grayson went outside to continue his exploration of the scientific method, only to find a crowd gathered in the yard.
Apparently, awaiting some sort of spectacle for the entertainment of the masses. Fox was putting on a performance for the family.
Grayson’s cousin, Misa, now a teen, returned very soon to swimming, bored by the show.
But Aubree really liked it.
“Ta da,” Fox said, taking a bow.
“Did you see the part where the girl made friends with the monster?!” he asked his audience.
“I came up with that plot twist,” he told them excitedly.
That afternoon, the family went to visit Ashlee and meet her new baby, Amy. Grayson, meeting Misa on the sidewalk, informed him that it was rude of him to walk out on Fox’s performance so unceremoniously.
“By the way, I’ve been wondering, what’s your prized possession?” Grayson asked. Misa looked distinctly peeved and stalked away.
Downstairs, in Fiona’s old room, Alyse had found the newborn, Amy Arias, and was cooing over her.
Then it was off to Felicity’s house, to meet their other new cousin, Laurie Tesla.
Alyse made sure the new mom was ok, and then headed off the bedroom to see Laurie.
Meanwhile, Grayson had noticed a miniature tea set wall decoration in Aunt Felicity’s kitchen that he particularly liked, and he put it in his pocket, hoping no one saw him.
Fiona and Yuki had found Laurie, in her bassinet next to her mother’s bed, and were enjoying getting to hold her and rock her.
Fox and Sakura were on to Grayson, about the tea set, and after the grown-ups had carried Laurie downstairs, they cornered him in Aunt Felicity’s bedroom.
“I saw you take my sister’s tea set,” Fox said. “Give it back.”
Grayson was mortified that he had been caught, and tried to hide under the covers.
When they left the room, he crawled out and began talking to his favorite dinosaur.
“What have we learned from this?” he asked.
“Yes, right you are,” he said with a wry smile. “We need to improve our stealth.”
