Take Me to the Moon Chapter 4.17

Previous Chapter / Next Chapter:

TS4 2015-05-10 16-13-40-85

The Tesla’s Home, with Launchpads, Command Center Bunker, and family graveyard.

Although for a while it seemed like everyone would always be young at the Tesla house, Cacey’s return with full-grown triplets,  had brought the passage of time to everyone’s attention.  Delaney continued to explore space and especially, the alien planet, Sixam.  However, she realized that in her excitement about the alien planet, she had forgotten her aspiration  to explore a second career before retirement.

TS4 2015-05-10 16-22-38-05

“I really want to get to at least level 3 in the Science Career before I retire,” she said.

She explained to Alexander and Ewan that she was going to resign her position as Space Ranger, and report to the Science lab instead for work.  This would give her an opportunity to expand her experimentation with ideas and flora, building on what she’d learned exploring Sixam.  Her exploration of Sixam would still be funded, although she would not be receiving her very high pay as a Space Ranger.

Alexander looked a little tense about the drop in pay, but since the family had savings and Delaney was determined, everyone accepted this was what she wanted to do.

TS4 2015-05-12 06-14-58-21

Fortunately, Delaney still had all her plants, many of which were Perfect.  By tending her garden, she had a good chance of having Breakthroughs that were needed to get promoted in her new Science career.

Meanwhile, Dante and Ryleigh, who had been living on savings and Ryleigh’s vacation pay, finally opened their bakery, Roll With It.

TS4 2015-05-11 20-26-28-14

It had been Dante’s dream to share his creations as a chef, and with Ryleigh’s business acumen, they made a great team.  But Dante was nervous about opening day, and checked and re-checked the inventory.

TS4 2015-05-11 20-51-16-32

When the first customer came through the door, everyone took a deep breath.  What would the customer’s think?  Would they be willing to pay nearly $500 for a piece of cheesecake?

TS4 2015-05-11 20-27-30-78

The second customer through the door was none other than the Grim Reaper.

TS4 2015-05-11 20-29-55-05

If there were any concerns that he may be there on official death business, his keen interest in the gourmet cakes soon made that seem unlikely.

TS4 2015-05-11 20-30-41-85

Dante and Rianna, who were the two family members on duty, quickly greeted him and he took a seat at a table.   One woman began to fuss at Dante, but with his attention on the Grim Reaper, he didn’t catch the specific nature of her complaint.

TS4 2015-05-11 20-33-02-37

Dante returned his attention to the customer he was most concerned about pleasing.

TS4 2015-05-11 20-34-24-99

“Pardon the rude customer, you were saying?”

Soon, though, he had to ring up other customers,

TS4 2015-05-11 20-39-29-36

Leaving Grim in the able hands of Rianna, who closed the deal.

TS4 2015-05-11 20-42-11-28

And did it with flair.

TS4 2015-05-11 20-42-52-00

Rachel returned from high school just in time to help with much needed re-stocking.

TS4 2015-05-11 20-44-50-14

She didn’t have the best work ethic, though.  With several customers in line, Dante noticed she was taking selfies.

TS4 2015-05-11 20-47-41-11

“Number one rule of business: Image is Everything!”

At the end of the day, Dante proudly hung their first Simoleon on the wall.  They had cleared over $1000 in profit!  Customers had raved about the value and quality of the merchandise!

TS4 2015-05-11 21-07-38-66

Dante went downstairs to relax and wait for Ryleigh.  He wasn’t sure if they were earning enough to pay the bills, but it was a better start than anticipated.  And restocking took less time than he had wagered, as well, so he thought they could stay open daily instead of one day open, one day closed.

TS4 2015-05-11 21-09-38-49

He had reorganized the sales floor after observing the way customers tended to move around the shop.  The new look was  a little more streamlined.

TS4 2015-05-11 21-07-50-91

When Ryleigh came home, she was tremendously relieved at how well the first day went.  Unsure about letting go of her safety net as a top level executive, she had been forced to miss the grand opening, but with the rest of the family, she had worked hard to get everything ready for it.  Dante and Rayliegh celebrated.

TS4 2015-05-11 21-11-17-51

TS4 2015-05-12 06-23-08-63

Back at the Tesla’s, Eric was working on completing his social butterfly aspiration, watching the clouds drift by with Gianni.  Eric had good friends, but he had never had a best friend.   Gianni’s confident nature made him a great friend, because he never got jealous when Eric wanted to spend time with other friends.

When Eric asked Gianni to be his best friend, he was glad to accept.

TS4 2015-05-13 06-03-49-86

“Besties on Fleek!”

TS4 2015-05-13 06-04-20-89

“Monday, at school, let’s set loose the gerbils!”

With a week left in high school, Elise was killing two birds with one stone.  To prepare for a career in Science, she needed to increase her logic skill; for her Renaissance Sim aspiration she needed to finish three books.

TS4 2015-05-13 06-14-36-73

Alexander was working hard to get promoted from ESports Competitor. Level 7 of the Tech Guru Career,  to Pro Gamer.   Having completed his Computer Whiz Knowledge aspiration, he was now  now working on the Successful Lineage Family aspiration, but this last milestone was a doozie.   One of Alexander’s children has to complete an aspiration, and a child or grandchild has to reach the top of a career.  Alexander was only a couple days away from his Elder birthday.

TS4 2015-05-13 06-28-19-87

Ewan had almost completed the third milestone of the Painter Extraordinaire Creativity aspiration.  This was his “Confident” painting:

TS4 2015-05-12 06-24-21-71

He still needed another “emotional” painting.  The morning before his young adult birthday, he woke up and fixed himself a cup of  Steamy Ginseng tea.

TS4 2015-05-13 06-30-54-12

As the sun rose, he sipped his tea on the lawn.  Although it was still too painful and complicated to even think about inviting her over to hang out, he was finally getting some perspective on his break up with Adrianna.

TS4 2015-05-13 06-32-00-52

That morning he created his first Flirty painting, depicting a box of chocolates.

TS4 2015-05-13 06-34-03-93

With a wry smile, he regarded his painting.  Although chocolates are desirable, choosing one is risky.  And for a person like Ewan, who sees risk everywhere he looks, it is especially so.

TS4 2015-05-13 06-35-25-08

TS4 2015-05-13 06-35-42-37

  • Ewan had enough points and got a couple of reward traits after finishing his third Painter Extraordinaire milestone.  He is now a Creative Visionary, with a higher chance of creating masterpieces, as well as a Savant, who gains skills more quickly than the average sim.
  • Delaney’s very last goal for the Renaissance Sim Knowledge aspiration is to reach Level 3 in 2 careers.  She already reached the top of the astronaut career, and completed the Nerd Brain Knowledge aspiration.  She can still travel to Sixam using the rockets, without the Space Ranger career.  She has 8 days before aging to Elder, but with maxed out skills in Rocket Science, Gardening, Logic, Cooking, Fitness, and Charisma, she might be able to get promoted quickly.  She has already had 5 of the 6 breakthroughs she needs for her first promotion, but after switching to the Science career, she has to wait three days before attending work.
  •  The next post will include Ewan’s young adult birthday, Alexander’s Elder birthday, and Delaney’s first day at the Science lab!
  • There’s a big change with Get to Work retail, that seems like it is going to be easier with crafted goods businesses, than Open for Business.  In Sims 4, restocking doesn’t seem to require baking fresh goods.  I think as long as the original goods are still fresh, they can be restocked without making new ones.  I figure that the restocked items will be of the same quality as the originals, so as sims’ skills increase, you would want to create new items, but you wouldn’t have to stay up half the night creating items to sell the next day in the store, like in Sims 2.  Has anyone else verified that this is the way it works?
  • The prices at Dante’s store are set to 15% mark-up, which is pretty low, but I noticed that a piece of cheesecake is nearly $500!  Much value, such quality!

So much fun! Delaney is so muscular! She looks great! The bakery seemed really fun. I haven’t yet tried the retail part of GTW.

    • Yes, Delaney has run twice a day (for astronaut promotions and training) since she was a teen, and she does her push-ups and sit-ups. I’m hoping that means she’ll be very long-lived, as I feel quite defiant at the moment and never want to say goodbye to her!

The bakery was even more fun than I thought it would be. (Ryleigh is Delaney’s best friend from growing up, that’s the connection to the family). There were a lot of customers, and at those prices (which were supposedly low, lol) they were buying quickly. I was so relieved the restocking didn’t require baking fresh cakes as that takes a lot of time. When the bills come we’ll see if they ultimately turned a profit or not, but it was fun.

  2. maisie says:

$500 cheesecake! Makes Cheesecake Factory seem like an outlet store! Glad that they’ve found a market for it and wow, I love the restocking with tablets! So realistic! I wish TS2 had that! The new bakery looks amazing, and it cracks me up that the Grim is like a person, death escort by work, cheesecake fanatic by day. 😉

Alexander as an elder… While his Moms sipping the fountain of youth (visually), poor guy. If anyone can get to the third tier in a second career, it’s Delaney. And it’ll be nice for her to be home more with the kids, they’re all growing up so quickly.

Ewan’s paintings are great, totally enjoyed the confident one and your insights about the box of chocolates. I admit that I enjoy the ones that are labeled so I don’t get a yucky surprise. Glad he’s feeling less hurt about the break up, I’m hoping he finds a great girl that he can be comfortable with.

    • That’s crazy expensive, right?! The customers were raving about the value, that must be some cheesecake!

I guess the only drawback of the restocking and ringing up with tablets is, the cash register is just decorative. It is nice not to have the long line at the cash register, but I’d like the option of assigning someone to the cash register and having it open too.

Cheesecake fanatic by day, ha! Grim is always showing up, and it still makes me worried he’s there on business. I think they ought to at least make sims, or some types of sims, around him have a tense emotion.

Delaney has been such an overachiever all her life. I just realized I’ve been writing about her now since New Year’s! No wonder I’m so attached to her. If I ever want to finish this legacy I probably need to pick up the pace a bit, lol. (But not till after she dies!) The next post will finally be Gen 5, with Ewan becoming a young adult. Thanks so much for your comments!

  3. Echo Weaver says:

Wow, the business looked incredibly fun. I don’t know how I feel about Grim showing up all the time. Once or twice is lots of fun. All the time makes Grim kind of mundane. That scene with him was fabulous, though. I kind of agree about the cash register. It’s frustrating to watch sims pile up, but it would be nice if the register did something.

It felt a little bit wrong for Delaney to change careers now, but you justified it beautifully. And she can still go to Sixam. Whew.

You need to pick up the pace? It is to laugh.

    • The pace is more likely to slow down from here, right?!

I agree about Grim showing up all the time making it mundane. Once I’m done with the legacy I’ll probably take the leap of choosing some mods, and maybe there will be a good one to stop him showing up all the time. That’s one I’d be interested in.

The business was fun! They took out some of the mundane upkeep from Sims 2 with crafted goods.

With all the excitement about Sixam, I totally forgot about this ONE last step for Delaney to finish her second adult aspiration until now. But I’m glad it didn’t seem too weird of a thing to do. It’s tough to give up $2300 a day she was making as a Space Ranger! She’s getting to analyze some of the stuff from Sixam in the lab, so that makes sense to me too.

      Thanks for the comment!

  4. Carla says:

Yay, Ewan! Still a teen and pretty accomplished already! That’s got to put him ahead once he becomes a young adult (which I can’t wait to see).

The bakery looks great, though I don’t know if I could afford to shop there! That must be some special cheesecake. EA pricing is always so way off – the TS2 food is the same, if you choose to run a business selling it. Caleb’s got a plate of pork chops selling for well over $100 right now!

Restocking is time consuming with TS2, so I’m glad you’re not finding it as taxing in TS4. I have to admit though, I kind of like that it’s difficult to run a business. It’s difficult in real life too, which is probably why people don’t generally manufacture all their stock alone, as sim business owners tend to do! Mind you, I tend to just max motives them until they’ve made enough, lol!

  5. Shannon Simsfan says:

You won’t have to wait long at all for Ewan’s birthday. And he’s not moving out, so he can be in the running for heir, but eventually I’m planning to make him his own small gallery/photo studio business with a very small apartment so he can have some independence. Sims can all but live at the business, especially if there are other sims in the household to stay at the main house and pay the bills.

It’s true difficulty adds realism, Either way has its’ pluses, but I am enjoying the way this works. In Sims 4, baking is a separate skill from cooking. Dante has maxed out gourmet cooking, so he makes the beautiful cakes, but the breads are made by Ryleigh, who is up to about level 3 in baking. Dante hasn’t had time to gain baking skill yet. It’s funny that some cakes are gourmet cooking and some are regular cooking; none yet are baking. I think they didn’t want to switch them since they are used for birthdays and not everyone has baking skill since it came with Get to Work.

    Thanks for commenting!

So I powered through this in 24 hours. I’m interested in how the gameplay in the sims 4 works, since I still have no plans to buy it. You wove a fascinating story as well, and I’m glad you stopped by my little blog.

    • Echo Weaver says:

Are you another die-hard Sims 3 player? We have to stick together! I’ll check out your blog.

    • Echo Weaver says:

Haha. You’re Sims 2. I barely played that game, but it sure has a dedicated following. Sims 3 fans don’t seem to have nearly the same loyalty.

      • It’s true, Sims 2 inspires fierce loyalty, it did in me. There are a lot of Sims 3 players out there too, though, right?

        • Echo Weaver says:

Honestly, I’ve been shocked at how quickly my usual Sims stomping grounds have switched to Sims 4, especially after all the bellyaching about how people weren’t going to switch (some of the gripes were real — I’m still hoping toddlers materialize before I buy in the fall — but woo).

You pointed me to N99, and there still seems to be some good SIms 3 conversation going on there. But the pickings are getting slim.

          • Yes, we should have toddlers!! And with teens being so adult-like in Sims 4 we could really benefit from a pre-teen stage too. They did such a great job with the kids, I still have hopes for great toddlers.

The switching does seem disproportionate to the belly-aching 🙂 This Sims 3 Simmer/Blogger just posted her list of favorites at her blog and four of them are still blogging Sims 3, you might want to check it out. Her blog is pretty funny too– I hope to read more of it soon when I can get some extra time.

      • Fini says:

        Lol. Yeah, I’m a die-hard TS2 fan. I tried 3, but I never developed the passion for it I had for 2.

        • That was my experience: I loved Sims 2, played it from about 2005 to 2014 with a short break when the launcher stopped working and I had to learn a workaround. Echo Weaver has a great Sims 3 Legacy story though, which has been running longer than any other Sims 3 legacy blog.

    • Wow, that’s amazing you read the whole thing in the last 24 hours?! (Amazing you stuck with it through blown up saves and various styles etc, ha).

thanks so much for leaving a comment, I’m glad to know you enjoyed the story. It’s going to take me time to return the favor since this is my second busiest season at work for the next 3-4 weeks. Then summer, yay!

      • Fini says:

I know all about blown up saves. In short, this is Newtopia Heights 4.0. Take your time in reading; I think I just passed my third anniversary of this iteration of the blog. It’s a lot of reading to do; almost 150 posts.

  7. moondansr says:

You’ve probably already learned the answer to your question about restocking. This is what I know. When you make fresh you get more profit. Restocking costs more, but you still make profit even if it is less. Some people swear by doing the cooking, removing the signs and putting in the new product. I’ve wondered if that’s really necessary though.

I had fun reading this one! A bakery is one of the things I’ve wanted to run in the Sims 4 but never have tried. Maybe I’ll give it a go in my new story. 🙂

    • Thanks for the info! I don’t think I’ll remove the signs, it works so nicely without doing that. Since this is a legacy, I hardly played the bakery… but I look forward to playing one in my rotational neighborhood that I’m setting up. I’ve been reading all your comments and appreciate them a lot, but with the kids being back at school this week (at my job) I’ve had very little time for blogging and reading. Thanks for commenting!

      • moondansr says:

Ah, school season. Well, have fun with the new school year! Let me know how your rotational play bakery goes. My new blog is up and filling with character intros, but there is definitely no rush. I feel like I might be doing intros until Thanksgiving at any rate. 🙂 Don’t worry about my comments either. A lot of people never seem to notice them at all, so your swift replies have been amazing.

  8. Haha… “Besties on fleek!” Funny. Looks like business is Booming! That’s great. I can’t wait to see Ewan grow into an adult. This’ll be fun.

  9. Ariadne2001 says:

Yep, that is indeed the way things work in Get To Work.
