Grayson rose early and challenged his mother to a chess match.

It wasn’t a drawn-out affair.  Grayson won quickly.

But he soon found another opponent.

Grayson was not surprised to see Aubree choose that pawn.  He could tell she was bored, and he suspected she figured beating a little kid was going to be easy.   Grayson could have easily hustled her, but he liked his aunt Aubree too much to take advantage of her like that.

He looked at the chess board.  Checkmate was only three moves away but Grayson considered how such a stunning win would impact whether Aubree would want to play again with him.  He chose a different move.  Even though Aubree was a captive audience, his babysitter for the day, he was thinking long-term.  Letting her win this time would allow him to capitalize on her sympathies and win him another chess game later.

Meanwhile, Alyse and Fearghus were having a lunch date at the beach just down the coast from their house.

TS4_x64 2016-06-28 11-44-48-73

Alyse had been feeling down lately, for no reason she could put her finger on, and she knew that Fearghus had been really stressed at work.  Time together seemed like a good idea for both of them, and this was Fearghus’ first day off in a while.

TS4_x64 2016-06-28 11-45-04-65

“To you,” he toasted.  Fearghus knew Alyse was brilliantly creative, and he knew she felt a little lost right now, since she didn’t really have the time and energy to funnel into developing her musical talent like she needed to really excel.

TS4_x64 2016-06-28 11-50-45-78

“I hate this shrimp,” Alyse said, gloomily.  “Why did you order this for me?”

TS4_x64 2016-06-28 11-52-57-01

“And what are you in the mood for?” Fearghus asked cheekily.  A grin spread across Alyse’s face, thinking of their inside joke concerning handcuffs in the bedroom.

TS4_x64 2016-06-28 11-53-18-74

Fearghus caught the waiter’s eye and re-ordered for Alyse, and he finished off her shrimp.  She was right, it had an odd taste, Fearghus noticed.

Back at home, Grayson consulted his log, to see which combinations he had already eliminated for his health potion.

He ran through another sequence

And noted the results carefully.TS4_x64 2016-06-28 16-08-10-12

Fox invited him to play Voidcritters.  Grayson played a round with him, but he found it tiresome. Fox loved collecting the cards and training them; his voidcritters were practically real, in his mind.

TS4_x64 2016-06-28 22-33-47-52

Grayson preferred other pursuits.  Like honing his strategic thinking.   As soon as Fearghus got home, Grayson challenged him to a game of chess.

TS4_x64 2016-06-28 22-49-27-47

Fox came running up to the balcony.

“There you are!” he said to Grayson.  “I wondered why you didn’t come back.  My Arcticorn was about to completely defeat your Wisp.”

“It is a foregone conclusion that your horned beast would defeat my tiny, untrained spirit-like creature; you spend hours every day training it,” Grayson explained, trying to keep from sounding pedantic.

“Yeah, but Void is strong against Water,” Fox informed him.  “That’s why it is such an epic battle.”

Fearghus and Alyse had such a great time at lunch, they decided to go out for dinner, too, while Aubree was still there to babysit.  This time they dressed up and headed for the city, for a restaurant right on the water.

TS4_x64 2016-06-28 12-10-23-76

This day off was turning out to be a bit of a mini-escape, and they both felt giddy with the romantic ambience.

TS4_x64 2016-06-28 12-08-16-54

They had to wait a long time to place their order, but they were still laughing and flirting when she finally arrived at their table.

TS4_x64 2016-06-28 12-11-44-31

But while they were waiting for their food, Fearghus started feeling violently ill.

TS4_x64 2016-06-28 12-14-58-84

The waiter came to check in, and tell them their dish would be out soon, but Fearghus was running for the bathroom.

“I think we’re going to need to give up our table,” Alyse told the waiter.  Alyse smiled at her, and suddenly it dawned on her that her face looked incredibly familiar.

“Are you, by any chance, related to Bjorn TuRok?” Alyse asked.

“He’s my dad,” she said.  “Hi, I’m Isla.  How do you know Bjorn?” Isla asked.

TS4_x64 2016-06-28 12-19-25-31

Fearghus returned to find Isla and Alyse talking like they’d known each other all their lives.  Alyse took one look at Fearghus’ white, drawn face and said, “Let’s get you home.”

When they got home, she had Fearghus call the Food Poisoning Hotline and report the restaurant on the beach.

“I knew that shrimp was bad,” she said to Fearghus.

Gameplay Notes:

  • Beautiful seaside restaurant, called Island Paradise Grille, by Rachelle7 on the Gallery.  The Windenburg Waterfront restaurant is by polyprincess123.  I had Alyse and Fearghus sit on the patio overlooking the bay, but there is also an amazing underwater dining area with drop-dead lighting shadows filtered through the water above in the daylight.
  • Fearghus and Alyse were both working on the Soulmate Aspiration, so they needed two dates.  Fearghus is a level ahead, so he needed two silver dates with spouse, whereas Alyse just needed two dates.  In spite of the food poisoning and the fact that their food didn’t arrive for hours, they were able to get silver for the second date, too.  It was so sweet, when Fearghus toasted Alyse at the beach, he was thinking of creativity, and her.  His joke about the handcuffs was prompted by a risque interaction and a handcuff thought bubble.
  • TS4_x64 2016-06-28 11-56-16-26
  • So after my recent comments that I’d never seen evidence of Alyse’s gloomy trait, she showed me!  She got the sad for no reason mood twice during this play session!  And she really did get a “I hate this shrimp” thought bubble when her order came.
  • Isla is Alyse’s half-sister on her dad’s side!  I posted a picture on tumblr of them having a “deep conversation” about death — both their moms have recently passed away.
  • For his Whiz Kid aspiration, Grayson needed to play three chess games with adults.

Wow. Grayson is really different and interesting! I looks like he might be a criminal mastermind in the making. Or a corporate raider? I am fascinated to see what he’ll be like when he got up.

So Feargus actually got good poisoning from his lunch? That’s pretty cool, actually. Adds some real depth (and danger!) to the restaurant pack.

So Alyse is on a soulmate aspiration? Did she complete her musical one, or did you put it on hold?

  2. Hi Susan, I’m trying to adapt to the strategy of Sims 4 where you can, without penalty, change aspirations as often as you like. Whenever a sim is going to do something that would meet a goal for one, you can switch it, and then they can rake in the points. They keep their progress on each one till they go back to it again. So Alyse had finished the first level for music, by practicing four hours and listening to music deeply for a couple of hours, I think, and they were going on dates, so I switched her over for the day.

I’m glad you like Grayson, he’s been fun to play and has captured my imagination. Corporate raider’s a good fit for him, I think, with his strategic thinking, and obviously criminal mastermind.

He really got food poisoning! And got some money for calling the hotline, but was so sick for about 6 hours. Thanks for commenting!

Interesting chapter! I love how brainy Grayson is especially with Fox. I hardly ever used the gloomy trait so it’s interesting to see the trait in action with a character. My main character sims always seem to gravitate towards lighthearted and happy individuals.

  4. Thanks, Keva! I have a lot of light-hearted and happy sims, too- I like seeing my sims happy 🙂 it’s true, your sims are usually unflappable even when they have difficult situations, especially the parents, where the children tend, for the most part, to be good at learning from their parents and not continuing in behaviors that will cause them difficulty for too long.

  5. Grayson is such a funny little kid. I’m pegging him for a criminal mastermind someday! 😀

I’m glad Alyse and Fearghus got a chance to reconnect and spend some quality time together. Or try to, anyway.

Funny that Alyse hated her meal. I’m wondering if gloomy sims always hate their food, because Stephanie always complains about hers, even when it’s cooked excellent, lol!

  6. Criminal mastermind definitely seems like a great idea for Grayson!. I hadn’t considered that it may have been her gloomy trait making her dissatisfied about the food, and that’s the first time I’ve had a gloomy sim eating out, I believe. But Fearghus isn’t cheerful, and he got the pleased/ heart icon in his thought bubble when his food came… I don’t know, I’ll have to watch for that! I didn’t realize Stephanie was a gloomy sim but that makes sense. It’s funny, with Alyse, I’m having to adjust to her acting like a gloomy sim; even though she’s had the trait, I never saw it come out before. Thanks again for commenting, Laura!

  7. Carla says:

Grayson is such a great contrast to Fox! Two very different little boys. It’s funny to see everyone pegging Grayson as a criminal mastermind; I was thinking more along the lines of scientist or doctor. Something where he could really pull rank over people with his intellect.

I’m glad Fearghus and Alyse took some time out for themselves. Shame it ended with food poisoning though! Only Fearghus was affected? There is food poisoning in TS2 as well but it’s pretty easy to avoid by not eating food with flies and green fumes coming off! This sounds like it might have been just random?

  8. Carla, I do think the food poisoning in Sims 4 dine out is just a random chance after eating at a restaurant. Only Fearghus got it. Sims can also get a nauseated moodlet (I think) from eating food that’s spoiled, but that’s a different situation.

Doctor or scientist, hmm, I could definitely see that for Grayson, too. I’m picturing him as someone who enjoys using the rules and loopholes to get the better of the system with his intellect.

Fox is rambunctious and loves the outdoors. He’s also rolled Serial Romantic, clumsy, and cheerful for teen/adult traits & aspiration, so I’m looking forward to seeing his personality develop as he grows up.

    Thanks for commenting!

I love the story. But this time I want to say about the screenshots – they are simply amazing! So beautiful!

    • Chealsycat, thanks so much for the compliment!! I try to set up each screenshot and be choosy about what I’m framing. There’s a lot of beauty in those areas of Windenburg. Thanks so much for reading and commenting!

I’ve been reading plot-driven stories for the past month , and now, catching up with yours, it makes me remember what I love so much about Sim-driven stories, like yours… that respect for the individual Sim, that attention to detail, the thoughtful contemplation of Sim feelings , thoughts, responses, and motivations … thank you !
